Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew reported missing; police have identified suspect. By Jennifer Vineyard

Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother died of fatal gunshot wounds Friday (October 24), police have confirmed to MTV News.
A Chicago police representative said the singer’s mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson, and older brother, Jason, were killed. Donerson was 57 years old; Jason was 29.
Officers received a call shortly before 3 p.m. Friday, the representative said, and upon arriving at the residence, 7019 South Yale Avenue, found the two victims. The incident has been declared a double homicide; police emphasized that this may be a domestic situation.
Julian King, Hudson’s young nephew, who had been living at the residence, has been reported missing. Chicago police confirmed to MTV News that the child may be in the company of identified suspect William Balfour, an African-American male in his late 20s, who is considered armed and dangerous. Balfour is out on parole from the Illinois River Correctional Center on attempted murder, carjacking and stolen-property charges, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was sentenced to serve seven years in 1999. He’s 5-foot-5 and weighs 147 pounds.
A Corrections rep said that Balfour was paroled in 2006; he was set to be discharged from that parole in May 2009.
According to the Amber Alert issued for King, he is wearing a brown, striped polo shirt and khaki pants. He is 4 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair.
Balfour had been living at the residence, according to public records, and may have had a romantic relationship with Hudson’s sister Julia, as vehicles are co-registered to both of them. Police said Balfour is believed to be driving either a white Chevrolet Suburban, 1994 model, with the license plate X584859, or a green Chrysler Concord, with the license plate 332K823.
According to public records, the home is owned by Hudson’s mother, but both Jennifer and Jason have been listed as residents for the second apartment. A neighbor, Vanessa Stanton, told ABC News, “Jason was a good person. His mom was too.”
Chicago Police Deputy Chief Joseph Patterson told reporters at the scene in a press conference that neighbors reported hearing shots between 8 and 9 a.m. Friday morning. Patterson said a family member called police upon finding the body of Hudson’s mother on the living-room floor, and when authorities arrived, they found the body of Hudson’s brother in a bedroom. There were no signs of forced entry, and police are unsure if anything is missing from the house.
“We have some promising leads right now,” Patterson said, “but it’s very preliminary.”
The Tribune reported that Hudson is not injured, according to her bodyguard. ABC News reported that Hudson was traveling to Chicago from Tampa, Florida.

NEW YORK — It was part homecoming parade, part raucous house party and, well, we’d like to think people learned something too.
On Thursday night (October 23), Nokia Theatre Times Square played host to “A Night for Vets: An MTV Concert for the BRAVE,” a tribute to the men and women who serve in the armed forces, and the place was packed with veterans, active-duty kids in military fatigues and more than a few big-name stars too. The whole concert airs Friday at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.
And it was all for a good cause — not just to throw our soldiers and veterans a Pinoy Cartoon kick-ass soiree, but to spread the message about BRAVE, the Bill of Rights for American Veterans, a petition created by MTV and a group of nonpartisan veterans’ organizations that calls on elected officials to support vets’ issues and enact positive legislative changes.
And while the political message was no doubt important, most of the vets in the audience were there to party, kick back and hear some music. And right off the bat, they were obliged, thanks to a fiery set from 50.
Dressed in camouflage, flanked by Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo, and backed by a tight live band (not to mention a gigantic American flag, “Patton”-style), Fif tore through “Get Up,” the first single from his upcoming Before I Self Destruct album, ordering the crowdmembers to throw their hands in the air and marching around the stage like a — pun intended — drill sergeant (you can check out photos of his rehearsal here). And then, with the wail of a guitar, he and his G-Unit mates were off, leaving the crowd begging for more.
And they got it, though not from 50. After a quick intro from Ciara, the room went dark and none other than Kid Rock appeared on a massive video screen, grabbed the mic and announced, “This one is for the biggest, the baddest and the bravest. … You kicked ass for us, and now we’re gonna kick a little ass for you,” before launching headlong into “Warrior,” a muscle-y rocker made even more diesel by the addition of four guitarists onstage.
The rock didn’t stop with the Kid. The video screens lifted to reveal Hinder, who strutted and screamed their way through “Use Me,” from their upcoming album Take It to the Limit. Lead singer Austin Winkler tossed devil horns in the air, popped his pelvis and finally thrust his mic into the crowd, urging them to sing along, which they did … loudly.
After a moment, the room went dark again, only this time, there were no video screens. Rather, after an introduction from Eve, Ludacris began to make his way through the crowd, shaking hands and rapping as his DJ cued up “Southern Hospitality” (many in the audience made like the hook and began throwing ‘bows, too). Luda didn’t let a broken left foot stop him from bounding around the stage, slapping high-fives and working his way through a medley of his hits, including “Stand Up” and “What Them Girls Like.” He tossed off his leather jacket, stood with his arms crossed and exited to thunderous applause.
There were other highlights too: Taped performances from Kanye West and Linkin Park shook the speakers and had the vets throwing their hands in the air. O.A.R. delivered a soulful live take on their hit “Shattered.” And Saving Abel closed the night with an emotional performance of “18 Days,” frontman Jared Weeks clutching a handful of dog tags and dedicating the song — and the entire night — to the troops.
And then it was over, and hundreds of former (and current) soldiers spilled out into Times Square. Their voices were hoarse, their faces plastered with smiles, and, for at least one night, they all looked like really happy kids. It’s a start.

M.I.A. stirred up quite a commotion Saturday night when she performed at the Diesel xXx Rock + Roll Circus in Brooklyn.
Dressed in very tight spandex, she was displaying a reasonably large baby bump. And if the belly wasn’t confirmation enough, she confirmed the news to Pitchfork Media earlier in the evening. “I’m creating a baby,” she told the Web site. Over the summer, it was rumored that she had canceled her summer tour plans because she was with child.
“When I found out I was pregnant and ‘Paper Planes’ was in the iTunes top 10,” the singer said, “it seemed like the whole world was reshuffled in one week, and all my plans went out the window. And that’s the lesson … you can’t make plans, and you can’t say sh–.”
She is expecting the baby with her fiancé, the Exit lead singer Ben Brewer, who also happens to be the son of Warner Music Group CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr. She didn’t reveal any details about the gender or how far along she is, but she did have this very important message for her young fans: “I got engaged first, then I got pregnant, kids.”
Although the singer says she’s hard at work on the follow-up to Kala, she says that she has other things she has to do first. “I have to do the rounds — go see my family and show them the belly,” she said. This is the first child for the couple.

Wooden two-headed drum with one synthetic head and one goat skin head. Held horizontally, both heads are played with beaters. The dhol is used in folk music from the northern Indian State of Punjab. It provides the percussion for the popular Pujab folk dance called the Bhangra; which has now gained popularity across India.
